HMC Barth "Doc" Risher was kind enough to convert his slides to digital images, and submit them to us for our viewing pleasure.

For those of us who have sailed on ships of the line, these images will bring back memories. The rest of you will see photos of life on the ship and some of the places we have visited.

Here is some background that Doc Risher provided for us...

Westpac Cruise of the USS Richard S. Edwards DD0950

September 1967 - March 1968
Commanding Officer was CDR Lee Blair Jr.
Executive Officer was LCDR Bruce Tager

The Edwards was part of Destroyer Division 172.
The other ships were:

The Edwards was the Flag Ship and the staff consisted of:

A breif outline of our trip to and from WesPac is as follows:

Underway 29AUG1967 from San Diego to Midway to refuel.
From there to Yokosuka, Japn.
Then to the gun line.
Then its on to Subic Bay.
Back to the gun line.
Then to Hong Kong.
Back to Subic Bay.
Then to Kaoshung, Taiwann.
Back to the gun line.Back to Subic Bay.
From there, headed home, stopping at Manus Island to refuel. Detoured to Brisbane Australia.
Then stopped Auckland New Zealand.
Refueled in Pago Pago, Samoan Islands.
Finally - back to San Diego 12MAR1968.


Our Commanding Officer Lee Blair was tragically killed in an auto accident in May 1968, two months after our return from the WesPac Cruise.
